The town has two choirs: one is an amateur community choir and another is an intermediate one. The first one annually held a Christmas program and the later named ‘Aurora’ is scheduled to do a show celebrating the last 100 years of Broadway in January.
The Pas has also a very busy community theatre company. Theatre 53 produces two plays each year that stressed on youth development. The theatre makes play for children which are portrayed by local children themselves.
The Pas Music and Fine Arts Festival is one of this province’s longest running music festivals for over 75 years. For long years, many young people have been won and chosen to receive scholarships——a ticket to the International Music Camp to obtain further training and coaching. The Pas Arts Council also supports square dancing classes, and are please to promote the Art Guild which is remerging after a hiatus of a couple of years.
Aside from music, The Pas Arts Council promotes arts by conducting art exhibits. In fact, the Susan MacCharles Gallery is the temporary exhibit space at the Sam Waller Museum. Luckily this year, art fanatics will be pleased to anticipate three upcoming exhibits starting with Flin Flon artist Eila Duncalfe, followed by a display of creation from Bruce County Museum called ‘Memories of My Mother’. The final show entitled ‘Diaries of a Mapmaker’ by Manitoba artist Don McMaster, who made a series of paintings celebrating the work of David Thompson.
Finally, The Pas Arts Council works hand in hand with the regional library in promoting their story time, and on occasion will host an author. This year the two collaborated initiating a plan about a one day children’s festival. Aside from that, The Pas Arts Council is planning for a children’s show with DuffleBag Theatre from Ontario, and Manitoba’s own Heather Bishop.
